The Fatehpur Beri police has finally arrested two brothers who cheated scores of gullible people by claiming they could double their gold ornaments. The accused, identified as Suraj and Taranath, are residents of Faridabad and have been operating from various south Delhi bases for the past two years. A panchayat in Bihar's Kishanganj district has imposed social and economic boycott of Dalits as a deterrent to their filing of cases under the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Dosia panchayat of Charakhpura village called upon the village not to sell provisions to Dalits and exclude them from other facilities. The problem began after a Muslim woman had a fight with a Dalit girl over picking up dung from a field. "The woman assaulted the girl. After this, there were rumours that Dalits were planning to file a case under the Atrocities Act. In anticipation, the mukhiya, sarpanch and zilla parishad (ZP) members had a meeting in which they told the Muslim community to socially and economically boycott Dalits. They said Dalits were filing cases under the Act," Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar told The Hindu. A nationwide study by NGO Gram Niyojan Kendra commissioned by the ministry for women and child development that studied 68 places of tourist interest found that after major cities and places for sightseeing,pilgrim centres were a growing hub.Incidentally,the report said that domestic tourists were overwhelmingly involved in sex with commercial sex workers while foreign tourists were engaged in paedophilia and sex with minors through shortterm marriages.The study clarified that foreign tourists visiting India for sex were restricted to a few places. Several children are abused by being subjected to burns. Realistic statistics will never be available for various reasons. However, doctors, particularly burn surgeons, are aware of the strange cause. Since the WHO has redefined the paediatric age as 0-18, the type of abuse varies. Hot water scalds are common in infants and children up to 5 years. Between the ages of 5 and 12, they suffer punishments by way of exposure to hot objects. For example, widows are considered to bring bad luck. At one point in India, widows couldn't get shelter and received harsh treatment. Source:- The Times Of India Godhi Pala and three others are the latest victims of superstition. They had been tonsured, had their teeth pulled out and forced to swallow human excreta before being paraded naked in Ganjam's Phasipada village recently because villagers believed they were sorcerers. Similar was the fate of Hema Swain (60) of a village near Patapur. She was tied to a tree and beaten up before being driven out of the village last year because villagers believed she was a witch. In another incident, six women from Kumarapari village within Khallikote police limits were branded with iron rods because villagers felt they were responsible for some deaths and outbreak of disease. Human right activists and police said many people in rural areas are victimized for blind beliefs. Sixteen such cases were recorded in the district in the last three months.
